The M1 Experience

David Hewitt – Grammy Winning Remote Recording Engineer

Incredible detail and an accurate bass presentation that I’ve never heard with other electrostatic headphones. And they are much more comfortable than the older electrostatic headphones our classical clients used.

A pioneer in the field, David is undoubtedly the most accomplished remote recording engineer of all time. He is truly a recording legend. In the 70s and 80s he ran the Record Plant’s ‘Black Truck’. Later, he founded Remote Recording Services and continued recording live sound for such high-profile clients as U2; The Rolling Stones; Pink Floyd; Simon & Garfunkel; Bruce Springsteen; Eagles; David Bowie; Neil Young; Barbra Streisand; Eric Clapton; Aerosmith; Crosby, Stills & Nash; Nirvana; Pearl Jam; The Grateful Dead; The Band; The Allman Bros.; Diana Ross; Carole King; Hall & Oates; Blue Oyster Cult; J. Geils Band; Bonnie Raitt; Willie Nelson; Avett Brothers and many others. He has also handled live sound for global events like The Grammys, The Academy Awards (aka The Oscars) and Live Aid.

Kevin Gray – Mastering Engineer

These headphones just sound amazing. I have been impressed by electrostatic phones in the past, but these are in a league of their own. Remember when you heard your first great audio system and wanted to listen to all your favorite recordings on it? Well listening to these, I have that same feeling all over again. With good clean source material, the sound is very revealing, without a hint of harshness, and perfectly balanced from top to bottom.

Kevin is well known by audiophiles worldwide for his superb mastering of vinyl and DSD music titles. He is the owner of Cohearent Audio in Los Angeles, but has also cut vinyl and CDs at Artisan Sound, The Cutting System, MCA, LRS, Future Disc, and AcousTech and is responsible for many legendary titles from Pink Floyd, The Who, The Beach Boys, Steely Dan, John Coltrane, Buddy Guy, Elvis Costello, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Fixx, and countless others.

Michael Beinhorn – Music Producer

More than a pair of headphones — this is an emotional experience.

Along with Bill Laswell, a founder member of the band Material. Michael and Laswell would perform on and co-write virtually all of Herbie Hancock’s Future Shock album, including the #1 hit record, Rock-it. Soon after, Michael became an in-demand producer with acts such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden, Hole, Marilyn Manson, Korn, Ozzy Osbourne, Soul Asylum, Social Distortion, Fuel, The Golden Palominos, Violent Femmes, among others.

Michael Bishop – Engineer / Producer - 5/4 Productions

The Model One has believable and solid low end, effortless transient response, and a great representation of depth and soundfield. The 400V voltage swing peak-to-peak easily reproduced complex piano passages with ease. Extremely comfortable too. I have owned many electrostatic headphones over the years and the Model One phones are quite a step beyond.

Michael Bishop has over 1,000 commercial recordings to his name, and (at the time of writing) has won ten Grammy awards for Best Engineering or Surround Mix. He was one of the lead recording engineers for Telarc Records for many years and has recently co-founded Five/Four Productions Ltd. with two former Telarc colleagues. Since the launch of the SACD format, he has been using the Sonoma 32-track DSD recording system as his main recorder.
